Hiring a real estate agent means hiring a partner (and their team) to help you through this process. You are not only hiring someone to take you to see homes; a real estate agent brings with them information and connections to make this process as efficient and streamlined as possible.

How to Buy a Home — Step #2 — Hiring an Agent

People choose their real estate agent for a number of reasons, but it’s important to understand how to choose the right agent. You are the decision maker of this process, but you need a team to support you and help you make and carry out these decisions. Everyone has a role, but your real estate agent is the first person you choose to be on your team. They will have references to execute all the necessary tasks during this transaction.

It’s not unusual to speak with your agent almost every day while in escrow, so it’s imperative you have an agent you are comfortable speaking to every day. Do you like to text more than talk on the phone? Or do you prefer to speak in person? You and your agent should create a dialog and flow that works for both of you, so you can sustain this process during escrow. Inevitably, all escrows are involved and can be stressful. You want your agent to be able to support you and keep you motivated during this life changing event. Choose someone that inspires you, educates you, and treats you well. They will be your rock when things get a little hectic. If you find a good agent, it’s likely they will be a friend for life.
